They possess the ability to consequently change colors depending on the light intensity. In other words, they will automatically darken when exposed to bright daylight and goes back to its clear state when there is no light.

The transitional ability that these lenses have in varying light conditions makes it perfect for cycling, especially if you are cycling and moving through shaded (low light) areas into bright areas and vice versa. The great thing about photochromic lens is that you don’t need to interchange lenses when you encounter different lighting conditions as it adjusts itself.
